Our approach

Dentistry that starts with listening.

Umber House is a small, independent practice built around a simple idea: people look after their teeth better when they understand what is happening and feel at ease in the chair.

We keep our diary unhurried, show you what we see on the screen, and talk through every option — including the option to wait and watch. Prevention always comes first.

Your first visit

What to expect when you walk in

New to Umber House, or simply haven't been to a dentist in a while? Here is how a first appointment usually unfolds.

  1. A proper conversation

We start away from the chair, talking about your history, worries and what you'd like to achieve.

  2. A gentle examination

A full check of teeth, gums and soft tissues, with images shared on screen as we go.

  3. Your options, explained

We walk through what we found and every reasonable choice, including doing nothing for now.

  4. A plan you take home

You leave with a written plan and costs, and time to decide without pressure.

Nervous patients

Anxious about the dentist? You're in good company.

Many of our patients arrive worried. We go at your speed and make sure you always feel in control of what happens next.

A stop signal

Raise a hand at any moment and we pause — no questions, no hurry.

Meet-first visits

Come in just to talk and see the room before booking any treatment.

Quiet comforts

Headphones, blankets and a calm, low-noise surgery to help you settle.

Step-by-step care

Treatment split into shorter sessions whenever that feels easier.

Questions

Good to know before you book

Are you taking on new patients?

Yes. Adults and children are welcome — just send a request below and we'll find a time that suits you.

How often should I have a check-up?

It depends on your oral health. Some patients need a visit every few months, others far less often. We'll recommend an interval that fits you rather than a fixed rule.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Around the time their first teeth appear is ideal. Early visits are short and relaxed, mainly helping children get used to the surroundings.

What should I do if I'm in pain?

Mention it in your booking request and choose "Urgent appointment". We set time aside each day for patients in discomfort and will prioritise your request.

Will I know the cost before treatment?

Always. You receive a written plan with costs before anything begins, and nothing extra is carried out without your agreement.
